Adah Sharma

Adah Sharma (born  11 May 1992) is an Indian actress who mainly appears in Hindi and Telugu-language films. After completing her education, Sharma made her acting debut in the blockbuster 2008 Hindi horror movie 1920, playing the major role. She was nominated for a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut for her portrayal of a possessed lady in the movie, which received positive reviews from critics. Adah entered the South Indian cinema business after the release of her romantic comedy Hasee Toh Phasee (2014), playing the main heroine in Telugu films like S/O Satyamurthy (2015) and  Kshanam (2016). She appeared in the 2023 movie The Kerala Story.

Early life and education

She was born as Adah Sarma in Mumbai in a Tamil Brahmin (Palakkad Iyer) family. Her father, S. L. Sharma, a Tamil who was a captain in the Indian Merchant Navy and was born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, passed away in 2014. Her mother Sheila Sharma is an Indian classical dancer and a devotee of mallakhamba yoga. She is Malayali and a native of Nattupura, Palakkad, Kerala.Sharma attended Auxilium Convent High School in  Bandra for his education. She had made the decision to pursue acting when she was in the tenth grade.

Adah wanted to quit school, but her parents believed she should at least finish her education. Sharma stopped studying after completing her 12th grade. Sharma is an athlete. She began dancing when she was three years old and earned her diploma in Kathak from Mumbai’s  Natraj Gopi Krishna Kathak Dance Academy. She claimed to be “very good” at belly dancing and that she had studied salsa for four months in the United States in addition to jazz and ballet.

Career

Sharma, who was trying to get into the movie business, was turned down for a number of parts, either due to her curly hair or because the casting directors thought she was too young. In the end, she was cast as the lead female opposite Rajneesh Duggal in Vikram Bhatt’s 2009 Hindi horror thriller 1920. Three years later, she released Phhir, another horror movie, in which she worked with Rajneesh Duggal, who had previously appeared with her in 1920, and screenwriter Vikram Bhatt.Her third movie, the romantic comedy Hum Hai Raahi Car Ke, was a critical and commercial flop that came out two more years later.

In 2014, Sharma had two releases: the Telugu version of Puri Jagannadh’s romantic comedy Heart Attack, in which she starred opposite Nithiin, and the Hindi version of Hasee Toh Phasee, in which Her next two films, the Telugu family drama S/O Satyamurthy, which was directed by Trivikram Srinivas and featured Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Allu Arjun, and the action thriller Rana Vikrama, which was her first Kannada project and starred Puneeth Rajkumar, were both released on consecutive days in April 2015.

In February 2016, Sharma has three releases, including two in Telugu. Madan, who also helmed her first movie, cast her as the love interest of Aadi’s character in the romantic comedy Garam. Her subsequent release was the suspenseful Commando 2, a follow-up to the 2013 movie Commando: A One Man Army, in which she co-stars as an inspector opposite Vidyut Jammwal. She portrayed Shalini Unnikrishnan / Fathima Ba, a radicalised Muslim convert who later joined the terrorist group ISIS, as the principal actress in the 2023 film The Kerala Story. Positive reviews of the actor’s performance in The Kerala Story have been received, and the audience liked her acting.
