Devoleena Bhattacharjee

Devoleena Bhattacharjee (born 22 August 1985) is an Indian television actress and trained Bharatanatyam dancer. She is well known for her role as Gopi Modi in  StarPlus‘s long-running hit serial Saath Nibhaana Saathiya. She was also a contestant on Bigg Boss 13,  Bigg Boss 14, and Bigg Boss 15.

Early and Personal Life

Bhattacharjee was born on 22 August 1985 to an Assamese-Bengali family in Upper Assam. She resides in Gurugram with her mother and younger brother. She was just seven years old when her father died in 1997; as a result of her family history, she is fluent in Bengali and Assamese. Bhattacharjee received her primary and secondary education at Godhula Brown Memorial English High School in Sivasagar, Assam, and her higher education at the National Institute of Fashion and Technology in New Delhi, India. In December 2022, she confirmed her wedding on Instagram by sharing some photos of the newlyweds.

Career

Bhattacharjee, a skilled Bharatnatyam dancer, began her career as a jewellery designer at Gili India Ltd. in Mumbai and was discovered when she auditioned for the dance reality show Dance India Dance 2. In 2011, she made her acting debut in NDTV Imagine‘s  Sawaare Sabke Sapne Preeto. Bhattacharjee replaced Giaa Manek as the female lead Gopi Ahem Modi in Star Plus‘s Saath Nibhaana Saathiya in June 2012, which proved to be her breakthrough. She considered leaving the show in 2014 and 2016, due to the many time jumps, but she stayed with the character until she completed 5 years in June 2017. The same month, she underwent spinal surgery following an injury sustained on the set of the show in 2013. Saath Nibhaana Saathiya concluded on July 23, 2017.

Bhattacharjee then appeared as a celebrity participant in the 13th season of Bigg Boss, which premiered in the last week of September 2019. However, she left the show two months later, in November 2019, citing medical difficulties. It was revealed in August 2020 that Bhattacharjee will reprise her role as Gopi Modi in the sequel to Saath Nibhaana Saathiya, titled Saath Nibhaana Saathiya 2, which will premiere on October 19, 2020. She appeared in the first 31 episodes, with the final episode airing on November 23, 2020. Bhattacharjee appeared on Bigg Boss 14 as a stand-in for Eijaz Khan.

She later entered Bigg Boss 15 as a wild card competitor, establishing history by competing in three seasons of Bigg Boss alongside Rakhi Sawant and Rahul Mahajan. In June 2022, shortly after her film’s first second chance, she returned to Saath Nibhaana Saathiya 2 to assist Gehna with her family troubles and to commemorate her ten-year involvement with Saath Nibhaana Saathiya.
