Disha Patani (born 13 June 1992) is an Indian actress who is known for her work in Hindi films. Her acting career began with the Telugu film Loafer (2015). She made her Hindi cinema debut in 2016 with the biopic M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story , for which she received the Stardust Award for Superstar of Tomorrow – Female and the IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year – Female. Patani went on to star in the Chinese action comedy Kung Fu Yoga (2017), as well as the Hindi movie Baaghi 2 (2018), Bharat (2019), Malang (2020), and Ek Villain Returns.
Patani is from a Rajput Hindu background. Jagadish Singh Patani, her father, is a police officer, while her mother is a health inspector. Khushboo Patani, her elder sister, is a lieutenant in the Indian Army. Suryansh Patani is her younger brother. She wanted to be an Air Force pilot since she was a child. Disha attended Amity University in Lucknow after finishing high school to pursue a degree in Computer Science and Engineering. She began receiving modelling opportunities while she was still in her first year. She dropped out of her second year of college and went on to compete in the 2013 Femina Miss India Indore pageant. Disha Patani was crowned first runner-up. Surprisingly, she also tried out for the film ‘Heropanti,’ but was turned down.

Early work (2015–2018)
Patani made her Telugu cinema debut in 2015 with Loafer , co-starring Varun Tej. She played Mouni, a teenager who flees her family to avoid a forced marriage. The film, directed by Puri Jagannadh and produced by C. Kalyan under C.K. Entertainment, was filmed on a $200 million budget and grossed only 106 million at the box office. The next year, Disha co-starred in the music video Befikra with Tiger Shroff, which was produced by T-Series’ Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar and written by Meet Bros. Meet Bros wrote and directed the film, and Aditi Singh Sharma provided vocals.
Patani made her commercial debut in Neeraj Pandey’s M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, a biographical sports film based on the life of MS Dhoni, the former captain of the Indian Cricket Team, in which she co-starred with Sushant Singh Rajput and Kiara Advani. She played Priyanka Jha, MS Dhoni’s character’s girlfriend who died in a car accident. The film, directed by Neeraj Pandey and produced by Fox Star Studios, was released on September 30, 2016 and was a huge success, grossing an estimated 216 crore (US$27 million). She also co-starred with Sonu Sood in Jackie Chan’s Kung Fu Yoga.
Patani then co-starred in Baaghi 2, a sequel to the 2016 film Baaghi starring Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor, and the second installment in the Baaghi franchise. Baaghi 2 was directed by Ahmed Khan and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. It was released worldwide on March 30, 2018 and grossed around 258 crore (US$32 million).
In June 2019, she starred alongside Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif in the film Bharat. Patani appeared in a long cameo as one of his leading women.The picture was a commercial success, although it earned mixed reviews from critics. She began 2020 with the release of Malang, an action thriller starring Aditya Roy Kapur, Anil Kapoor, and Kunal Khemu. Malang has earned 84.50 crore (US$11 million) globally, making it a commercial success. The film was hailed by critics for its soundtrack, action sequences, director, and cast performances. In March 2020, she participated in a song in Baaghi 3, the third edition of the Baaghi franchise, starring Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor.
Patani next starred in Prabhu Deva’s action thriller Radhe, where she reunited with Salman Khan as one of the film’s leading ladies. Though Radhe garnered severely poor reviews from reviewers and audiences alike, who criticised the story, script, director, and VFX, the film was released concurrently with Eid al-Fitr as premium video on demand on Zed Plex through ZEE5. It was an enormous OTT success. With 4.2 million views on the day of release, it became the most watched OTT film. In 2022, she co-starred with John Abraham, Tara Sutaria, and Arjun Kapoor in Mohit Suri’s psychological thriller Ek Villain Returns.
The film received mixed reviews from reviewers and did well at the box office. Rediff.com’s Sukanya Vema commented, “Ek Villain Returns relies on the popularity of the Galliyan track to boost its appeal.” Patani has wrapped filming for Karan Johar’s Yodha, in which she co-stars with Sidharth Malhotra. Suriya 42, her Tamil debut film, will be released in mid-2022. She will appear in Nag Ashwin’s Project K, which will be released in 2024 and stars Prabhas, Amitabh Bachhan, and Deepika Padukone.
