Esha Gupta

Esha Gupta (born 28 November 1985) is an Indian actress who works in Hindi films. She was named Femina Miss India International 2007 in 2007. She made her acting debut in the criminal thriller Jannat 2  (2012), for which she was nominated for a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. Gupta competed in the Femina Miss India pageant in 2007, finishing third and winning the Miss India International title. She later represented India at the Miss International competition. Gupta’s acting in the political drama Chakravyuh (2012) got plaudits after her debut, however her performance in the comedy film Humshakals  (2014) received unfavourable feedback. Her most successful films were the horror thriller Raaz 3D (2013), the crime drama Rustom (2016), and the action-adventure Baadshaho (2017).

Early and Personal Life

Esha Gupta was born on 28 November 1985 in New Delhi. Her father is a retired Air Force officer, and her mother is a stay-at-home mom. Neha is her sister’s name. She grew up mostly in Dehradun, Hyderabad and Delhi. Gupta earned her bachelor’s degree in mass communication from Manipal University‘s School of Communication. Gupta competed in Femina Miss India in 2007, winning Miss Photogenic and finishing third to advance to Miss India International. In 2010, she was included in the Kingfisher Calendar . She afterwards pursued a career in Bollywood. Gupta is dating Manuel Campos Guallar, who lives in  Spain. She is a vegetarian. “At the time, being vegetarian saved the lives of animals,” Gupta explained, “and she thought it was a healthy way for both humans and the planet to embrace vegetarianism.”

Career

Debut and early work (2012-2017)

In 2012, Gupta made her Bollywood debut in Mahesh Bhatt’s Jannat 2 alongside Emraan Hashmi. She appears rough around the edges at times, yet she performs her duties confidently.” “As for Esha Gupta, I guess she’ll have to enrol herself in an acting school,” Glam Sham’s Martin D’Souza said. “Esha Gupta, who looks like a cross between Lara Dutta and Isha Koppikar, is merely there for the glam quotient,” Gaurav Malani added. The film was a box office success, grossing 430 million (US$5.4 million) in the United States, bringing Gupta further exposure. Gupta later joined Vikram Bhatt’s Raaz 3D cast, with Emraan Hashmi and Bipasha Basu from Jannat 2.

Gupta’s acting abilities received mixed reviews from critics, with film writer Komal Nahta commenting, “Esha Gupta is stiff as Sanjana but does much better towards the end (when she almost goes berserk)”. A Bhatt film in which the females are not allowed to show off their bodies is unfathomable; after all, Bipasha looks stunning in the lead part, while Esha has a few rough edges.” Raaz 3D performed well at the box office in its first three days of release, grossing more than 360 million. Her third picture of the year, Chakravyuh, was invited to screen at the London picture Festival.

Gupta appeared briefly in Gori Tere Pyaar Mein. She starred in Sajid Khan’s Humshakals in 2014, alongside Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Bipasha Basu, and Tamannaah. Gupta starred as a high-society woman in the 2016 film Rustom, which was labelled a “disaster” by Box Office India. In 2017, Gupta had three releases. In the box office flop Commando 2, she played the major antagonist. She then starred alongside Hashmi in their third film together, Baadshaho. She made her Telugu and Tamil debuts with the bilingual film Veedevadu.

Further career and expansion (2018-present)

In 2018, Gupta played an officer’s wife opposite Arjun Rampal in J.P. Dutta’s Paltan. Her face was described as “blissfully blank” by the Hindustan Times. Gupta 2018, she also made her broadcast debut as a judge on & TV’s High Fever — Dance Ka Naya Tevar. In 2019, she appeared in the comedy film Total Dhamaal. In its first twelve days of release, the film earned 200 crore (US$28 million) globally, making it one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of 2019. The same year, she co-starred with Anupam Kher in One Day: Justice Delivered as DCP. According to Shubhra Gupta of Indian Express, “Esha Gupta’s portrayal as a tough crime branch officer took away the film’s ‘credibility,’ whatever it had.”

In 2020, Gupta will expand into web shows. She made her web debut in the second season of RejctX. In 2021, she appeared in Nakaab. In the third season of 2022, she played Bobby Deol’s image-maker. According to the Hindustan Times, “Esha Gupta looks good as Sonia, but the show underutilizes her.” Gupta will next be seen in Ameesha Patel’s long-awaited Desi Magic. She is also working on Hera Pheri 3 and File No. 323.

Humanitarian work

Esha is seen taking part in environmental activities such as “Beach Cleanup Drives,” “Walk for Saving Mangroves,” and forest protection. She is also involved with Surman Sansthan, which works to improve and educate girls.
