Jacqueline Fernandez
Jacqueline Fernandez (born 11 August 1985) is a Sri Lankan actress and model. She has been in reality shows and music videos in addition to working in Indian films, mostly in Hindi. She made her Hindi cinema debut in 2009 with Aladin, and since then, she has developed a career in the business. A multiracial Eurasian family of Malaysian, Canadian, and Sri Lankan ancestry raised Fernandez, who was born and raised in Bahrain. She entered the modelling business after earning a degree in mass communication from the University of Sydney and working as a television reporter in Sri Lanka.
Fernandez made her acting debut in the 2009 fantasy drama Aladin, which she auditioned for while on a modelling assignment in India. Her first commercial triumph, the psychological thriller Murder 2 (2011), gave Fernandez her breakout role.
Early life and modeling career
Jacqueline Fernandez was born on 11 August 1985, in Manama, Bahrain, I was brought up in a multicultural family. Her mother, Kim, is of Malaysian and Canadian ancestry, while her father, Elroy Fernandez, is a Sri Lankan Burgher. Jacqueline great-grandparents were from Goa, India, while her maternal grandfather is a Canadian. Her mother was an air hostess and her father was a musician in Sri Lanka who fled civil violence between the Sinhalese and Tamils in the 1980s and migrated to Bahrain where he later met her. Fernadez is the youngest of four kids, having two older brothers and a sister. Jacqueline worked on a few television series in Sri Lanka after graduating. She also went to the Berlitz school of languages, where she improved her French and Arabic and acquired Spanish.
Fernandez claimed that she had fantasised about becoming a Hollywood movie star and had longed to be an actress since she was a small child. The John School of Acting provided her with some training. She was a television reporter, but because of her success in pageants, she received modelling opportunities, which she took despite being a reporter. She was named Miss Universe Sri Lanka 2006 and represented Sri Lanka at the international Miss Universe 2006 pageant held in Los Angeles in 2006. According to Fernandez, modelling is “a good training ground” and “a medium that is about shedding your inhibitions, knowing your body, and confidence,” she remarked in an interview from 2015. She had an appearance in the music video for the song “O” in 2006.

Acting career
Fernandez visited India in 2009 for a modelling job. Jacqueline made her acting debut in the fantasy film Aladin (2009) directed by Sujoy Ghosh after a successful audition. Jacqueline is “easy on the eyes and appears confident but has precious little to do,” according to Rajeev Masand of CNN-IBN. She received the IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year – Female despite the film’s critical and financial disaster.
In the 2010 science fiction romantic comedy Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai, Fernandez costarred with Deshmukh. She was cast as a Venusian girl who comes to Earth looking for lo Rediff.com’s Sukanya Verma wrote: “She gamely makes a fool of herself while aping the motions of cinema stars, ranging from Sridevi’s Naagin dance, Mithun Chakravarthy’s Disco Dancer moves, to Big B’s violent headshake in Hum. The film, along with Fernandez’s performance, garnered negative reviews. Anupama Chopra, another critic, described Fernandez as “a pin-prick on a balloon” in her criticism.She made a special appearance in the song “Dhanno” for the Sajid Khan comedy “Housefull” later that year.
Her career changed course when she became a financial success with Mahesh Bhatt’s suspenseful film Murder 2. She played Priya, an isolated model who has an ambiguous romantic relationship with Arjun Bhagwat (played by Emraan Hashmi). Alongside Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, and Asin, Fernandez had an appearance in the ensemble comedy Housefull 2 the year after. It became one of India’s highest grossing productions that year and brought in 1.86 billion (US$23 million) globally. The majority of the critiques regarding Fernandez’s performance were unfavourable. Despite the unfavourable reviews, Fernandez’s performance earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the 14th IIFA Awards.
Race 2, an ensemble action thriller starring Fernandez, Saif Ali Khan, John Abraham, and Deepika Padukone, was released in 2013. Film reviewer Rajeev Masand called Race 2 the “cinematic equivalent of a trashy novel” She had to learn some acrobatics and fencing for her role as the femme fatale Omisha.
2014–present: Commercial success
In 2014, Fernandez made her directorial debut with the action movie Kick, a remake of the same-titled Telugu blockbuster from 2009. She played the doctor Shaina in the Salman Khan-starring role. For the first time, she used her authentic voice in Kick. Fernandez became one of the most well-known Bollywood actresses as a result of the movie.
Fernandez’s subsequent film was the action movie Brothers by Karan Malhotra. Fernandez played Jenny, a strong mother fighting for her child, in the film along with Akshay Kumar and Sidharth Malhotra. Fernandez referred to the character as “challenging,” “intense,” and “difficult.”
In Housefull 3, the third film in the Housefull Series, Fernandez made her acting debut in 2016. Despite this, the movie was a financial success, earning $1.88 billion (US$24 million) globally. The worldwide box office take for her subsequent movie, the action adventure Dishoom, was 1.2 billion (US$15 million).Later that year, she participated in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’s ninth season as a judge.
In 2017 She starred alongside Varun Dhawan and Taapsee Pannu in David Dhawan’s comedy Judwaa 2 later that year. It was a follow-up to the comedy movie Judwaa from 1997. The movie was a financial success, grossing 2.26 billion yen (US$28 million) globally. She co-starred with Salman Khan in Race 3, the third film in the Race franchise, which was released in 2018.
Personal life and other work
Fernandez says she has a close relationship with her family and longs to be with them. I miss them so terribly every day, she says. When you move away from home, you may not be aware of how challenging life may be. At the same time, avoiding them has helped me become a more responsible person. It has given me a wealth of knowledge about who I am, my priorities, and time management. Hassan bin Rashid Al Khalifa, a Bahraini prince, and Fernandez began dating in 2008 after meeting at a gathering for a mutual acquaintance; their relationship ended in 2011. In 2011, while filming Housefull 2, Fernandez and director Sajid Khan started dating. In India, there was media attention given to the romance and rumours of an upcoming wedding. The union, however, came to an end in May 2013.
Fernandez has backed numerous causes and philanthropic organisations. Fernandez was honoured “Woman Of The Year” by PETA (India) in 2014 for championing animal protection. Vegan Fernandez practises.
Fernandez has taken part in a number of musical tours and nationally broadcast award ceremonies. She performed in the Temptations Reloaded in 2013 with Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, and Madhuri Dixit in Auckland, Perth, and Sydney. The next year, she appeared alongside Khan, Priyanka Chopra, and Varun Dhawan on stage at “Got Talent World Stage Live” to perform. In July 2014, Fernandez and chef Dharshan Munidasa founded Kaema Sutra, a restaurant in Colombo that focuses on modern Sri Lankan cuisine. Fernandez co-founded her athletic clothing company, Just F, in July 2018. In March 2022, Fernandez performed a dance routine to the TV show’s instant hit “Arabic Kuthu” song with other actresses.
