Kriti Sanon
Kriti Sanon (born 27 July 1990) is an Indian actress who works in Hindi and Telugu-language films. She temporarily worked as a fashion model after graduating from the Jaypee Institute of Information Technology with a degree in engineering. Sanon made her acting debut as the lead in the 2014 action films 1: Nenokkadine and Heropanti. Her performance in the latter garnered her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.
Sanon’s career advanced with leading roles in the commercially successful romantic comedies Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017) and Luka Chuppi (2019), as well as her highest-grossing films, Dilwale (2015) and Housefull 4 (2019). She got the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her performance as the titular surrogate mother in Mimi (2021). Sanon was named to Forbes India‘s 2019 Celebrity 100 list. She owns her own clothing line and fitness company, and she has also worked as an ambassador for various brands and products.
Early life
Sanon was born on 27 July 1990 in New Delhi to Geeta Sanon, a physics professor at the University of Delhi, and Rahul Sanon, a chartered accountant. Her parents are Punjabi Hindu. She attended Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram before graduating from Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, Noida with a Bachelor of Technology degree in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering. Before becoming an actress, she briefly worked as a model. Nupur, her sister, is also an actor.

Career
Early work (2014–2020)
Sanon made her acting debut in 2014 with 1: Nenokkadine, a Telugu psychological action thriller in which she played Mahesh Babu’s love interest. The Times of India and Sify both lauded her looks and her acting ability. After the first date of 1: Nenokkadine was over, Sanon was cast in Heropanti, a Hindi action film starring newcomer Tiger Shroff; Heropanti was a commercial hit. For Heropanti, Sanon received the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut and the IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year – Female, and she was nominated for the SIIMA Award for Best Female Debut – Telugu.
She was then cast opposite Varun Dhawan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Kajol in Rohit Shetty’s action comedy Dilwale, which became one of India’s highest-grossing films at the time, grossing more than 3.72 billion (US$47 million) worldwide.Sanon reunited with Maddock Films producer Dinesh Vijan in his directorial debut Raabta (2017), which starred her and Sushant Singh Rajput as star-crossed lovers, after a year away from the big screen. The film was a commercial failure. Sanon portrayed a rebellious small-town woman seeking a better life in Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s romantic comedy Bareilly Ki Barfi.

Mimi and beyond (2021–present)
Sanon reunited with Vijan and Utekar for the comedy-drama Mimi (2021), which proved to be a watershed moment in her career. It was a version of the 2011 Marathi film Mala Aai Vhhaychy!, and she played the titular character, an aspiring actress who becomes a surrogate mother. Sanon put on 15kg for sequences involving her character’s pregnancy. Sanon received the IIFA Award for Best Actress as well as the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. Sanon’s next release, the comedy Hum Do Hamare Do (2021) opposite Rajkummar Rao, premiered on Disney+ Hotstar. Her first release in 2022 came with the action comedy Bachchhan Paandey, which marked her second collaboration with Akshay Kumar.
Adapted from the 2014 Tamil film Jigarthanda, Sanon played a part originally portrayed by a male actor. The film was unable to recoup its ₹180 crore (US$23 million) investment. Sanon starred with Varun Dhawan in Bhediya, the third installment in Dinesh Vijan’s horror-comedy universe. It was shot over a span of two months in various locations of Arunachal Pradesh. In 2023, Sanon co-starred with Kartik Aaryan in Shehzada, a remake of the Telugu film Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo. The film was a critical and commercial flop, with India Today’s Zinia Bandyopadhyay criticising her as “completely wasted.” Sanon will next be seen in Vikas Bahl’s action film Ganapath, alongside Tiger Shroff.
She will co-star alongside Prabhas and Saif Ali Khan in Om Raut’s mythological film Adipurush (2023), and will co-star with Shahid Kapoor in an untitled romantic comedy. Sanon will also appear in the female-led film The Crew, alongside Tabu and Kareena Kapoor, about an aircrew.
