Career
2002–2014: Early career and struggles
Bharuccha made her acting debut in 2002 with a little part in the TV show Kittie Party. She acted in her first Hindi movie, Jai Santoshi Maa (2006), and appeared in Zubeen Garg’s music video “Zindagi Kahin Gum Hai” in 2007. She appeared in the Telugu movie Taj Mahal (2010) and made a cameo in the film Kal Kissne Dekha (2009). Drishika Kashyap was her final on-screen character in Seven. In the 2010 anthology Love Sex Aur Dhokha, directed by Dibakar Banerjee and starring Ekta Kapoor, Bharuccha played her first leading part in a Hindi film. She then acted in Luv Ranjan’s films Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011) and Akaash Vani (2013) with Kartik Aaryan. Both of these films failed, just like her subsequent flop Darr @ the Mall (2014) with Jimmy Sheirgill.
In 2015’s Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, Ranjan, Bharuccha collaborated with Aaryan for the third time, catapulting her to fame. Her first financial success, the movie made over 88 crore dollars globally. Her other film, Meeruthiya Gangsters (2015), and the Tamil movie Valeba Raja (2016) didn’t go as well, though.
She gained significant attention in 2018 for playing a character with grey undertones opposite Aaryan and Sunny Nijjar in Ranjan and Bhushan Kumar’s romantic comedy Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. It turned out to be an unexpected movie office smash, taking nearly 150 crores globally. She continued to enjoy broad success in the comedy Dream Girl (2019), starring Ayushmann Khurrana and grossed 200 crores, in which she played Ayushmann Khurrana’s love interest.[9] Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety and Dream Girl, two of her highest-grossing films, have joined India’s 100 Crore Club.
