Rubina Dilaik

Rubina Dilaik (born 26 August 1989) is an Indian actress who primarily works in Hindi television along with Hindi films. She made her acting debut in the hit television programme Chotti Bahu, playing the role of Radhika Shastri. She got the ITA Award for Best Actress Drama for her performance of Soumya Singh in Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki and earned favourable reviews. Rubina became the Bigg Boss 14 winner in 2020. In addition, Dilaik competed in the 2022 seasons of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 10 and Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 12, where she became first runner-up and fourth, respectively. Her other significant works include Jeannie Aur Juju and Punar Vivah – Ek Nayi Umeed. With  Palash Muchhal‘s Ardh made her Hindi cinema debut in 2022.

Early and Personal Life

Dilaik was born on 26 August 1989 in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. She attended St. Bede’s College, Shimla Public School for her education. Her father is a published author who has written numerous Hindi-language books. She competed in beauty pageants in her early years, winning two regional competitions and was named Miss Shimla in 2006. When she was in school, she won the national debating championship. She has an English Literature degree with a minor in Political Science. She won the Chandigarh-based Miss North India Pageant in 2008.

Before their breakup in 2012, Dilaik was dating her Chotti Bahu co-star Avinash Sachdev. On June 21, 2018, in Shimla, Dilaik wed actor Abhinav Shukla, her longtime love. Before they entered the show, Dilaik claimed on Bigg Boss 14 that her marriage to Shukla was breaking up. She also disclosed that they had given each other six months before divorcing. After the performance, though, they made the decision to stay together, and her husband assured her that there would be no divorce.

Career

Debut and breakthrough (2008-2013)

Despite preparing for an IAS career and beginning her acting career with Chotti Bahu, she was chosen at Chandigarh auditions. In the Zee TV‘ series Chotti Bahu, opposite Avinash Sachdev, Dilaik played Radhika Shastri, a character she also played in the follow-up. She portrayed Simran “Smiley” Gill in the 2012 season of Saas Bina Sasural on Sony TV. She costarred with Karan Grover as Divya Jakhotia in Punar Vivah – Ek Nayi Umeed on Zee TV in 2013.

Success and acclaim (2014-2019)

She played Jeannie in SAB TV‘s Jeannie Aur Juju in 2014 and Sita in Life OK’s mythological series Devon Ke Dev…Mahadev in 2013. Dilaik played Soumya Singh opposite Vivian Dsena in the Colours TV series Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki from 2016 to 2020. For her role, she received awards for Best Personality at the 2017 Golden Petal Awards for Colours and Best Actress at the 2017 ITA Awards. She returns to the show in March 2021. It proved to be a significant career turning point for her.

Bigg Boss 14 and beyond (2020-present)

Dilaik competed in the fourteenth season of Bigg Boss, the Indian equivalent of the  reality TV series Big Brother, in October 2020. Together with her spouse Abhinav Shukla, she participated in the house. She remained in the house for 20 weeks and won the competition. Dilaik took part in Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 12 in 2022. In 2022, Dilaik made her Hindi cinema debut in Ardh starring Rajpal Yadav and Hiten Tejwani. Palash Muchhal, a musician and vocalist, makes his directorial debut with it. During the look-test for the movie, Rubina was picked above 50 other girls. On June 10, 2022, Ardh was made available digitally on ZEE5. Critics gave it high marks. She competed in  Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 10 in 2022, finishing as the first runner-up.
