Urvashi Rautela

Urvashi Rautela (born 25 February 1994) is an Indian actress and model who predominantly appears in Hindi films. She rose to notoriety after winning the title of Miss Diva Universe 201 while she did not compete in the Miss Universe 2015 pageant as India’s representative. Rautela made her cinematic debut in 2013 with Singh Saab the Great (2013), and she has since acted in films such as Sanam Re (2016), Great Grand Masti (2016), Hate Story 4 (2018), and Pagalpanti  (2019). In 2014, she made her debut in Kannada film with  Mr. Airavata. Her first appearance in Tamil cinema was in 2022, with The Legend.

Early life and education

Rautela was born on 25 February 1994, in Haridwar. Her father’s name is Manwar Singh Rautela, and her mother’s name is Meera Rautela in a Garhwali Rajput family. Her hometown is Kotdwar. She attended St. Joseph Convent School in Kotdwar and graduated from Gargi College, University of Delhi. She attended Gargi College at the University of Delhi.

Pageantry career

Various pageants and fame (2009–2015)

Rautela’s fashion career began at the age of 15 when she landed her first significant break at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week. She was also crowned Miss Teen India 2009. In 2009, she was also crowned Miss Teen India. She walked the runway as a young model for Lakme Fashion Week, Amazon Fashion Week, Bombay Fashion Week, and Dubai Fashion Week. Rautela was crowned Indian Princess 2011 and Miss Asian Supermodel 2011. She also received the title of Miss Tourism Queen of the Year 2011 in China, making her the first Indian woman to do so. She was also offered  Ishaqzaade but declined since she wanted to focus on the Miss Universe event.

Rautela got the coveted title of in 2012. She was crowned  I AM She – Miss Universe India and received a special award for Miss Photogenic. She had to abdicate her throne, however, because she was underage at the time. In 2015, she competed in another Indian pageant and won the title. She represented India in Miss Universe 2015, although she did not win the title.

Acting career

Rautela made her Hindi cinema debut in Singh Saab The Great playing the female protagonist opposite Sunny Deol. Urvashi starred in Yo Yo Honey Singh’s international video album Love Dose, which was published in October 2014, following the premiere of the film. Soon after, she stepped into Kannada cinema, making her debut with  Mr. Airavata. Although the film gained critical acclaim, Urvashi’s dancing routine was applauded. “Urvashi is expressive and leaves her mark in the few scenes and songs she appears in, especially with her dancing,” Sunayana Suresh wrote for The Times of India.

She later acted in two further Hindi films, Sanam Re and Great Grand Masti, all of which did well at the box office. In 2016, she also appeared in two music videos. Laal Dupatta, Mika Singh, and Anupama Raag, as well as Gal Bann Gayi and Vidyut Jammwal. Rautela appeared in the film Kaabil’s special dance scene Haseeno Ka Deewana in 2017. Amitabh Bachchan expressed his appreciation for her performance. Amitabh Bachchan is a Bollywood actor. She also made a cameo appearance in the Bangladeshi film Porobashinee.

Various roles and further career (2018–present)

She participated in the revenge drama Hate Story 4 in 2018. “Urvashi Rautela has the main role and her character has plenty to offer,” Rachit Gupta of the Times of India said of her performance. She begins as a girl dancing in a strip club, but as the story progresses, her character undergoes numerous twists, turns, and reveals. There’s a lot on her plate, and the lovely actress manages the plethora of emotions and hues with grace. Rautela starred in Anees Bazmee’s comedy flick Pagalpanti in February 2019, which received negative reviews and was a box-office disappointment.

Virgin Bhanupriya, a comedy-drama directed by Ajay Lohan and produced by Shreyans Mahendra Dhariwal, was released in 2020. Because of the COVID-19 epidemic, the film was only available on ZEE5. Rautela made her Tamil debut alongside Saravanan Arul in the film The Legend. She also appeared in a song in the Telugu film Waltair Veerayya, featuring renowned actors Chiranjeevi and Ravi Teja, in 2023. In the same year, she appeared in another song for the Telugu film Agent.

Upcoming films

Rautela recently wrapped production on Dil Hai Grey, an adaptation of the Tamil film Thiruttu Payale 2. She is also going to make her Telugu film debut as the lead in Black Rose. Rautela will make her Hollywood debut alongside Michele Morrone in the Netflix feature Renata Fonte. Barbara Bialowas will direct the film, which will be produced by Netflix and Tomasz Mandes. She has announced another Telugu film with Ram Pothineni, directed by Boyapati Srinu, on Instagram and Twitter.
